Beyond creams and lotions: long term eczema relief starts here.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of slathering on lotions and creams for any skin conditions and assuming that it’s the answer. Veteran eczema suffers will know by now — it’s temporary at best.

The naturopathic (and long term relief) approach, goes deeper and well beyond more creams. Find someone to help you address these three areas to help with true healing:

Step 1: Identify and calm internal inflammation.

This is where working with a practitioner pay dividends.

Calming inflammation goes beyond just the skin; you want to address it in the gut, the nervous system and even the immune system. Start by identifying things that might be triggers and spark flare up such as specific foods, environmental issues and even stress, and work on minimising those things in daily life as much as able.

Step 2: The gut-skin axis.

The research for the link between the gut and the skin is immense. This is where true healing starts to take effect. Working on healing your gut from symptoms such as leaky gut, supporting proper digestion and elimination, and balancing those gut bugs that live in us all are key in repair and optimal skin health.

Step 3: Rebuild the skin barrier.

Damage of the skin over long term use of harmful chemicals and allergens, as well as years of scratching can contribute to the continued flare up cycle. Start making some swaps in the creams and lotions (including perfumes, body washes, soaps and make ups) you or the kids might use. Consider fragrance-free options instead. Essential oils can also damage your skin barrier due to their potency, so be wary with their inclusion too.

Also, consider the nutritional element. Nutrients such as zinc, vitamin E and omega 3 fatty acids are essential for skin health and healing.

Quick fixes fade. Band-aids fall off. Creams wash away.

Lasting eczema relief comes from working from the inside out. Skin repair is done by working on things that you might not see. If you (or your child) needs help with this, reach out. Let me guide you.
